Bugatti Type 35 fetches over $1.6 million at Paris auction
The 11th edition of the “Automobiles sur les Champs” auction, held Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, in Paris by Artcurial Motorcars, totaled almost €6 million (over $6.9 million). As expected, it is a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 that tops the list of this edition’s sales, fetching €1,438,900 (over $1.6 million), including fees.
As well as this exceptional race car, the auction saw several other models sell for sums close to their estimated prices, such as a magnificent Bentley Continental R with bodywork by H. J. Mulliner, which sold for €814,100 (over $941,000).
Some surprises of the sale were the very old models, which sailed past their estimated prices. For example, a Peugeot 3.3/4 HP “vis-à-vis” from 1896 sold for €208,600 (over $241,000), after being estimated at €60,000 to €80,000 (between $69,000 to $92,000). Similarly, a Peugeot Lion 8 HP Type VC Phaéton from 1908, sold for €46,500 ($53,000) after being estimated at €20,000 to €30,000 ($23,000 to ($34,000).
