Kelley Blue Book (KBB) has tested and assessed every new car launched in the United States over the past 12 months to come up with a list of the best vehicle to buy across each market segment based on value for money, total cost of ownership, reliability and forecasted residual values.
And the big news this year is that Honda has taken the top spot in six separate vehicle categories as well as clinching the overall award for best value vehicle, the 2018 Honda Accord.
It was declared the vehicle information, valuation and research firm’s overall winner because it offers an unmatched combination of reliability, value, fuel economy and standard features in one of America’s most competitive and saturated markets: the mid-sized sedan segment.
Honda was also victorious in the small car category with its 2018 Civic, while the Clarity Plug-in hybrid came out top in the electric or hybrid car category.
Thanks to a complete overhaul after 10 years of simple nips and tucks, the 2018 Ford Expedition was named the best full-size SUV or crossover, but Honda took the award for best small SUV (the 2018 CR-V) and mid-size SUV/crossover (2018 Pilot) plus for the best minivan, the Odyssey.
The Audi Q5 was named the best buy for those seeking a luxury SUV and the German company also came out on top in the luxury car category with the latest generation A5 Fastback.
For the second year straight, Porsche took the performance car award for the Boxster, while for the fourth year in succession, the Chevrolet Impala was named the best full sized car, and the Ford F150 the best pickup truck.
Of this year’s list of Best Buy award winners, KBB’s executive publisher, Karl Brauer, said, “[We] take great pride in providing a significant consumer service by identifying the new vehicles our experts believe to be the absolute best-value choices for new-car shoppers.”
To arrive at its final list of 12 cars, KBB has this year undertaken tests and assessments of over 300 cars on sale in the U.S. this year, as well as looking at historical data to calculate things such as cost of ownership and depreciation. JB
