The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has lifted its number coding for Wednesday to help commuters get a ride during an expected nationwide transport strike scheduled for that day.

“To help commuters that might be affected by the transport strike, the UVVRP [Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program] or number coding scheme is suspended tomorrow, Jan. 24, for all vehicles, public and private,” the MMDA said in its Twitter account on Tuesday.

The mass action will be staged by Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) to protest the government’s “Tanggal Bulok, Tanggal Usok” campaign of the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-Act), which aims to rid Metro Manila streets of smoke-belching and old jeepneys as part of its modernization program. /atm – By: Frances Mangosing
