Saab 9-4X crossover: First Photos

October 19,2010

Saab is alive and kicking. After the brand was scheduled for euthanasia by troubled parent company General Motors, it was saved at the last minute by Dutch carmaker Spyker. Under Spyker, Saab has continued development of models that were initiated under GM, including the 9-4X crossover.

Looking like a refugee from Mazda, the car is based rather on the Cadillac SRX platform. The 9-4X adds Saab’s own styling touches inspired by its Aero X concept. Key ingredients are the three-port grill and “ice-block” effect lighting. Disguised windshield and door pillars make for the brand’s wraparound-effect look. Interior uses aircraft theme-controls, as well as the trademark ignition switch located between the front seats.

A powerful 300-bhp 2.8-liter turbo V6 resides under the hood, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 9-4X will be built in a GM plant in Mexico, with its official debut set at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
