Audi Philippines showcased the second-generation Audi RS 5 Coupé with an exclusive media launch held at the Butamaru Ramen x Izakaya in Ortigas, Pasig City.
A bright red Audi RS 5 Coupé was under wraps before it was unveiled by Audi Sport GmBH certified driving instructor Christoph Klapper, who explained the new features and capabilities of the RS 5 Coupé.
The all-new second generation Audi RS 5 Coupé is the first Audi Sport model to feature the current RS design.
According to Audi, its designers drew inspiration for the car from the distinctive motorsport details of the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO.
Its massive air inlets with the honeycomb structure typical of RS models characterize the front end of the car.
The overall length of the new RS 5 is 4,723 mm, 74 mm longer than the previous model. It also weighs 60 kilos less than the previous model, with 1,655 kilograms without a driver.
Compared to the base model, its singleframe radiator grille is much wider and flatter. The additional air inlets and outlets are located next to the headlights and rear lights. Distinctive tinted bezels frame the optional matrix LED headlights.
Other RS features include its quattro blisters on the flanks that emphasize the aggressive design of the RS 5 with its pronounced bulges over the wheel arches, which is wider by 15 mm than the base model.
Other features of the RS 5 are 20-inch wheel set which comes standard, the RS-specific diffuser insert, oval tailpipes of the RS exhaust system and a surface-mounted spoiler lip.
“The Audi RS 5 Coupé is a car that exudes character—from its progressive design to its sporty interior. Not only does the new RS 5 defines perfection in design, comfort and safety, it also delivers sophisticated performance one can only expect from Audi,” said Audi Philippines head Benedicto Coyiuto.
The RS 5 Coupé comes within supercar territory with its powerful 2.9 TFSI V6 bi-turbo engine developed by Audi from the ground up.
Delivering 450 hp, it has a peak torque of 600 Nm, which is 170 Nm more than the previous model.
It is also available across a broad engine speed range from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm.
Being the top model in the A5 family, the RS 5 Coupé can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 250 km/h. With the optional RS dynamic package, it can even reach 280 km/h.
Audi positioned its two turbochargers inside the center on top of the V portion of the engine, and each turbocharger feeding a single cylinder bank.
Its B-cycle combustion process with central direct injection represents a new level of efficiency within the RS family, consuming just 8.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, which corresponds to 197 grams of CO2 per kilometer. This represents an efficiency gain of 17 percent over the previous model.
Mated with the bi-turbo engine is a sportily-tuned, eight-speed tiptronic transmission with optimized shift times and on to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive which features a self-locking central differential.
What stands out inside the all-black interior is its optional RS sport seats that comes in fine Nappa leather with honeycomb pattern, and the flat-bottomed RS multifunction sport leather steering wheel underscore the character of the high-performance Coupé in the interior as well.
Its distinctive RS displays in the Audi virtual cockpit provide information on tire pressure, torque and g-forces.
