Caught in emergency? Use Grab in-app SOS button

Following the death of a Grab driver in Parañaque City last month, the management of the transport network vehicle service (TNVS) company advised all of its drivers and passengers to use the emergency feature in its application.

Grab Philippines condemned the killing of Ananias Antigua, who died from 12 gunshot wounds last July 31, and urged vigilance at all times.

Brian Cu, Grab Philippines executive, assured assistance for the family of Antigua and vowed to help seek justice over their driver-partner’s death.

“We will continuously cooperate with the authorities to give justice to the Antigua Family. We respect the privacy of the family and they are assured that Grab will extend the support they need in this time of grief. Ananias Antigua will be truly missed, he was part of Grab family,” Cu said.

Cu noted that Grab has an in-app emergency or SOS button for both the drivers and passengers that can be used in times of urgent situations.

According to Cu, the in-app emergency button is directly linked to proper authorities.

Cu added that since Grab implemented a stricter account verification process on its passengers, close to 100,000 “unverified accounts” have been deactivated.

“We strongly condemn any act that puts our driver-partners and passengers at risk. We are continuously doing tech enhancements to ensure safety of both drivers and passengers,” Cu said in a statement. /kga
