Mindanao racers dominate Davao Extreme 4×4 Race

A record turnout of 39 extreme off-road racers from all over the country joined recently concluded 10th Davao leg of the Maxxis Extreme 4×4 Cup. Organized by The National Association of Filipino Off-roaders (NASFoR), the competition which coincided with the Kadayawan Festival, was dominated by local racers.

Davao 4Wheelers member Joseph Rodriguez claimed top spot, followed by Euane Evangelista of Digos 4Wheelers. 3rd and 4th place went to Dennis Garcia and Cesar Daquil respectively, both members of Davao 4Wheelers with Jun Dimafeliz, also from Digos 4Wheelers claiming 5th spot. Also joining the competition were Larry Mendiola and lone female racer Karen Pagquil. Both Mendiola and Pagquil have previously represented the Philippines in several international competitions.

The Davao leg was co-organized for the first time by local host Davao Cabantian Adventure Club. This race saw 21 aspiring racers competed in the production category. For the next leg, it will be held in General Santos City on September 1 and 2 while the 12th installment will be staged in Digos City on September 8 and 9. This year’s series will be concluded in the Philippine Tough Truck Challenge XVIII in Cagayan De Oro City happening in December.

Currently, after the 10th leg, 2016 Driver of the Year (DOY) Daquil is the man to beat for the coveted DOY award with most accumulated points followed by JR Bartolome of the Land Cruiser Club of the Philippines and Jherico Lara of the Aurora Racing Team in 3rd place. 18-year-old Christian John Doyon of Ormoc 4Wheelers, Derrick Gahite of Manila East Off-roaders and Karen Pagquil rounds off the top six contenders for the DOY trophy. So far, the top three best-performing teams so far are 4Wheelers Davao in first, followed by Ormoc 4Wheelers, with Nueva Ecija Off-roaders rounding off the top three. The 10th leg of the 2018 Maxxis Cup was presented by Maxxis Tires and is sponsored by Racetech Suspensions, 199 Offroad House, Phoenix Pulse, AEG Tools and Merco Bakeshop.
