Reopening of Estrella-Pantaleon bridge decision of DPWH; MMDA surprised
The MMDA was surprised at the sudden opening of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connecting Makati and Mandaluyong.
According to Bong Nebrija, Commander of the MMDA’s Task Force Special Operations, there was no coordination with them to open the bridge. It was to be closed for 30 months for its removal and the construction of a four-lane bridge in its place.
The MMDA has been in contact with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on what happened because the DPWH project is expanding the road.
Meanwhile, Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo, chairman of the Build Build Build Committee of DPWH, said they opened the bridge last night. This was to first discuss the requests that the closure begin only after the Christmas season.
The MMDA said there was no coordination on the bridge reopening, as Nebrija did not know about the DPWH decision.
