Marvelling at the Marvel X

Philippine Daily Inquirer January 23,2019

Electric vehicles are gaining popularity in China at a pace faster than anywhere else in the world.

As of April last year, China already accounted for 35 percent of electric cars sold in the world. Government support is spurring the growth, subsidizing charging stations, and exempting EVs from license plate payments and high registration fees that combustion engines are usually charged.

MG’s sister brand, Roewe, is now producing electric vehicles that can easily put Tesla or any other brand to shame with a battery reach of 600 kilometers per charge.

The Marvel X is Roewe’s flagship brand, and is the world’s first mass-produced intelligent vehicle. One of its design features is an i-Drive intelligent all-wheel drive system, which allows it to accelerate to a speed of 100 km/h in just four seconds.

The Roewe Marvel X, a purely electric vehicle, can be charged through its intelligent wireless charging system. It can also find a parking bay and park autonomously.

In the Philippine setting, nobody knows when the electrification fever will hits us. At least, we know that MG’s sister is just waiting in the wings to bring its technology here when we’re ready for it. Jong Arcano
