At the recent Shanghai Motor Show last April, Lexus unveiled its newest addition to its lineup: the Lexus LM (Luxury Mover), which will soon be available in China and select Asian markets.

Consistent with its tagline “Experience Amazing”, the brand uses this new platform in the Lexus line up to cater to individuals who want the unique flexibility and spaciousness of a luxury MPV with all the accoutrements of a luxury sedan.

In Asia, where traffic is a dreaded reality in most cities, the Lexus LM is positioned to cater to individuals who prefer to be chauffeured around town in luxury and still meet the needs of always on-the-go professionals, businessmen and VIPs with first-class airline-like seating unrivalled in any other platform. The LM can also be a great road trip vehicle for quick out-of-town trips for both leisure and business.

Lexus says that this type of luxury transport in Asia has enjoyed a very stable segment growth over the past five years. Although patterned after the Toyota Alphard MPV, Lexus takes the LM to another level of refinement and rear seating experience with just two individual rear seat layout or the more practical 7-seater layout for more capacity. This kind of first class airline-type of two rear seat configuration of the LM provides a very relaxing, spacious private environment to the passengers that caters to businessmen and professionals who need to be chauffeured constantly around town. Its unique four-seat layout features two large, throne-style, high back supportive seats in the rear of the luxury mobile space.

In this configuration, the LM aims to create a rear seat experience and space unrivalled among luxury vehicles. The rear seats are designed for their occupants to relax in a very soothing space. The reclining angle was carefully designed for optimum relaxation, and the position of the occupant’s face relative to the window. The seats rely on plush low-density urethane foam that offers ideal support with couch-like comfort. The seats are cooled using suction ventilation that draws air through the seat surface to enhance comfort.

The LM’s finely crafted rear cabin that offers a serene and plush environment with excellent ride quality to match. It features a 26-inch color display monitor, equipped with a 14 liter refrigerator with wine bottle and glass compartments, umbrella storage, and center console with touch control panel. The panel controls the seat position, relaxation function, climate control and audio for the rear private space. An adjustable rear partition glass can be used to regulate the privacy of the rear space. The large TV monitor display can be interfaced with laptops, computers, smartphones and tables and is equipped with a Blu-ray DVD player. The audio entertainment system is equipped by Mark Levinson’s Premium Surround Sound System that delivers clear, live-sounding audio entertainment. Thanks to its acoustic glass, road noise is minimized and helps achieve an extraordinary level of quietness that further elevates the level of luxury and feeling of space.

For the 7-seater variant, the layout for the first and second row has two separate luxury bucket seats and the third rear row has three seats across, finished in leather seat covering. The seats of the center row are distinguished by larger, more supportive arm rests.

The Lexus LM comes in two models, the LM 350 and LM 300h and will have two drive types (front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive). Specs will vary depending on the market. The LM 350 uses a 3.5-liter DOHC gasoline engine and while the LM 300h comes with a 2.5-liter Atkinson four-cylinder engine and hybrid system.

Looking from the outside, the LM’s exterior is defined by the Lexus spindle grille in front and the center pillar is adorned with a distinctive dual arrowhead chrome design to define the premium nature of this vehicle. Only two exterior color options are available for the LM, it comes in Black and White Pearl Crystal Shine.
