DOTr starts authorizing companies for vehicle inspection

May 18,2019

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has started granting provisional authorities to companies seeking to operate Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers (PMVIC).

According to a May 17 DOTr statement released to reporters, issued with provisional authorities were Winwin Realty Development Corp. and RIAP Motor Vehicle Inspection Services.

The DOTr told motioncars.inquirer.net the two companies are the first to have been granted provisional authority among “many other companies” which intend to operate PMVICs.

The two companies were granted the provisional authority after the DOTr on April 12 evaluated 17 “non-contentious applicants” for PMVIC authorization.

The DOTr said Winwin Realty Development Corp. and RIAP Motor Vehicle Inspection Services have 45 calendar days to comply with the legal and other documentary requirements of the PMVIC Authorization Committee. They must also complete the construction and must start the operation of their respective PMVIC facilities within 120 days after they have received notice of their provisional authority.

The DOTr, through Department Order No. 2018-019 issued on August 10, 2018, allowed private companies to operate the Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS). The agency said the move aims to “institute a more efficient system of motor vehicle inspection,” the goal of which is to provide for a safe and reliable public transport system.
