FERRARI’S 710hp, 3.9-liter V8 won overall honors in the 21st edition of the International Engine & Powertrain of the Year awards. The recent win was the fourth-consecutive for the V8 — the most for any engine in the history of the awards.
Ferrari now has 31 International Engine & Powertrain of the Year awards.
The 3.9-liter V8 engine, used in the Ferrari 488 GTB, 488 Spider, 488 Pista and 488 Pista Spider, also took the Performance Engine and best power unit over 650ps awards. The V8’s slightly lower-displacement version that powers the Ferrari Portofino and GTC4Lusso secured top honors in the awards’ 550ps to 650ps category.
Ferrari noted the International Engine & Powertrain of the Year awards this year switched from capacity categories to power output categories to ensure a fairer judging of hybrid powertrains.
The awards, whose program this year was held in Stuttgart, Germany, are determined by an international panel of 70 automotive journalists.
