Here is Bentley’s new Flying Spur

June 02,2019

THE teasing will soon be over. Bentley Motors, which is celebrating its centennial this year, announced it is finally revealing the new, third-generation Flying Spur Grand Touring Sedan on June 11. And the carmaker has released photos of the new car.

The new Flying Spur will be the first Bentley to get all-wheel steering, which promises to enhance its stability at cruising speeds and agility around town. During high-speed maneuvers, the system’s electronics steer the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, making overtaking and lane changes more assured. Bentley guarantees all-wheel steering does not compromise high-speed confidence or low-speed convenience.

The new steering system is paired with all-wheel drive, a feature of recent Flying Spurs. But, for the first time, power is supplied only to the rear wheels when the car is traversing normal road conditions, so it returns classic sports sedan handling characteristics. If any slip is detected, the system can instantly and automatically send power to the front wheels, providing active all-wheel drive grip.

Bentley said the new Flying Spur’s Dynamic Ride is designed to further improve both handling and ride comfort. A fresh feature in the Flying Spur, the innovative system changes suspension stiffness on demand to combat cornering forces and minimize body roll, which might otherwise disturb occupants.

The carmaker added that, like the recently launched Bentley Continental GT, the upcoming Flying Spur is a “ground up development that pushes the boundaries of both technology and craftsmanship to deliver segment-defining levels of performance and refinement.”

The car owes only its historic name to the preceding model; the four-door sedan will deliver an unparalleled touring experience for the driver and passengers alike, according to Bentley.
