AT Honda Powersports’ Power Lab 2019, Honda unveiled a pair of new four-seat sport side-by-side models — the Talon 1000X-4 and Talon 1000X-4 Fox Live Valve. The new vehicles, meant for the North American market, add to the Talon 1000X and Talon 1000R two-seat cars released by Honda earlier this year.
“Since the two-seat Talon models hit the market a few months ago, it’s been fun to see how ready customers were for a sport side-by-side touting Honda’s legendary refinement, durability and performance,” said Chris Cox, American Honda’s manager of experiential marketing and public relations. “By far the most common request we’ve heard in that time is for the capability to carry additional passengers, so it’s gratifying to bring the Talon 1000X-4 and Talon 1000X-4 Fox Live Valve to market so quickly. Like their two-seat siblings, these models introduce new technology to their category, and we’re confident that they’ll set new standards as well.”
Honda said the Talon 1000X-4 has a longer chassis allowing room for two more people. It features so-called stadium rear seating, an arrangement that positions the back passengers inboard and higher than those in front. Powering it is a performance-tuned version of Honda’s 999cc four-valve Unicam parallel-twin engine that’s paired to a dual-clutch transmission, which can be switched to automatic or a Sport mode via steering column-mounted paddle shifters.
Fox’s Podium Quick Switch 3 shocks allow suspension travel adjustments of 14.6 inches and 15 inches front and rear, respectively.
Honda said other Talon elements are carried over, including I-4WD traction-aiding technology, hill-start assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
In FOX Live Valve trim, the Talon 1000X-4 adds a trick suspension system able to crunch data from a multitude of sensors, and accordingly adjusts all four shocks 16 times per second. Honda said this results in “unmatched handling” and “minimal body roll and stellar high-speed tracking in rough terrain.” Front and rear suspension travel are 14.4 inches and 15 inches, respectively. This variant also comes standard with electronic launch mode that makes full-throttle acceleration off the line possible.
Both vehicles are available in the US starting in the third quarter of the year.
