DOTr EXECs impressed with the F-Jeepney, Foton’s Modern PUV
At the recent celebration of the Land Transportation Office’s 107th Founding Anniversary last May 6-10, many car and truck companies displayed their vehicles at the LTO grounds as one of the highlights of the festivities in an event it dubbed The LTO Motor Show.
Most of the vehicles exhibited were the modern PUV –to showcase the vehicle industry’s capability to provide the vehicles solution to the Department of Transportation’s PUV Modernization Program. Exhibitors put on display their modern PUV units powered by either a Euro 4 diesel engine or an electric motor.
The event drew massive support across all sectors of the automotive industry, and from all major industry players with the Truck Manufacturers Association, Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc., Electric Vehicles Association of the Philippines, Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, Philippine Parts Maker Association, and the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association putting on display their latest vehicles.
No doubt the runaway hit among the various displays were the modern PUVs, especially to the officers and members of the transport corporations and cooperatives participating in the PUVMP. Various brands displayed their Class 1, 2 and 3 modern PUVs compliant to the standards of the Bureau of Philippine Standards. One vehicle however stood out, the Foton F-Jeepney.
As DOTR officials were examining the modern PUVs on display, they gave special attention to the Foton F-Jeepney. DOTR Usec Mark De Leon, LTFRB chair Chuck Delgra, and LTO Chief Asec Edgar Galvante went inside the unit and even had a short meeting. They were joined by Centro VP Rommel Juan and Foton executives. They pointed out the modern and upgraded amenities such as the spacious interior, high head room for standing passengers, high-tech gadgets, and the cool aircon system.
The Foton F-Jeepney was developed using the brand’s best-selling light duty truck, the Tornado 2.4C. The rear body was designed, manufactured and assembled by Centro Manufacturing Corp., one of the country’s leading regional providers of quality truck bodies and truck-related equipment and services. It is powered by an ISF 2.8S41 17V CRDI 4-cylinder, in-line, water-cooled turbo charger Cummins diesel engine that is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The vehicle generates 116 horsepower at 3,200 rpm, and a torque of 260 Nm at 1,300–3,200 rpm. It belongs to Foton’s line-up of Blue Energy Euro 4 compliant vehicles designed for cleaner and more powerful mobility.
“We support Foton in its drive to provide the best possible modern PUV with their F-Jeepney model. We know that Foton headed by their visionary president Rommel Sytin is aggressively setting its sight on getting a good share of the Modern PUV market. And with their professional team, capable dealership network, and good quality products, we are sure that they will be successful”, says Juan.
