A 3.5-hectare property that can hold 800 vehicles will serve as a “boot camp for impounded vehicles,” according to Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Martin Delgra III.
LTFRB bared this in a June 14 statement issued to journalists, which said its central office “broke ground” on its first impounding area, located in Barangay La Paz, Magalang, Pampanga.
The agency said putting up its own impounding facility is “an integral part” of the government campaign against “colorum” vehicles — or vehicles which illegally transport passengers in exchange for fares. The LTFRB said it “puts the safety and convenience of the riding public as its utmost priority” in explaining the need for the new facility.
LTFRB noted that besides Delgra, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Department of Transportation assistant secretary Manuel Gonzales, who is concurrently head of the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, LTFRB board member Ronaldo Corpus, and other officials of the agency’s central and Region 3 offices.
Delgra in a speech during the ceremony cited President Rodrigo Duterte’s “unwavering support” for the agency’s campaign against colorum vehicles.
