Ferrari teases special project cars

Ferrari P80/C

THE Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019 is still a couple of weeks away — it’s set on July 4-7. But Ferrari has already released photos of, and bits of details about, its trio of Ferrari Special Project cars.

The Ferrari P80/C and Ferrari SP3JC will go on public display for the first time at Goodwood. Both cars will also be taking part in the Supercar Runs up the famed Goodwood hill climb, Ferrari said. The third Ferrari scheduled to appear at the event is the Monza SP2.

The carmaker bared the P80/C is based on a Ferrari 488 GT3 car, and had spent the longest development time of any Ferrari one-off made to date. The car uses the 488 GT3 chassis not only for performance reasons, but also because it has a long wheelbase (50 millimeters more compared to the 488 GTB). This, according to Ferrari, allowed its engineers more creative freedom in designing the P80/C.

Ferrari SP3JC

The SP3JC is based on the chassis and the running gear of a Ferrari F12tdf. Ferrari called the car “the maximum expression of open-air motoring” as it harks back to the company’s V12-powered Spyders of the 1950s and 1960s.

Ferrari Monza SP2

For its part, the Monza SP2 belongs in the brand’s new “Icona” range. Ferrari said the Monza SP2 is inspired by barchettas of the 1950s, which were driven to victory in international motor sports not just by official works team drivers from the Scuderia, but also by gentlemen racers.

Set to join the three Special Project cars are some Michael Schumacher Formula 1 cars, the FXX-K Evo, and the current range of Ferrari models which include the Portofino, 488 Pista, 812 Superfast and GTC4 Lusso.
