IT’S undeniable the Ford Ranger Raptor is quite sporty. But it’s not the only sporty Ranger. Because now Ford Philippines has expanded its pickup lineup with the release of the new Ranger XLS Sport.
As an upgraded version of the Ranger XLS, the Ranger XLS Sport is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, a grille and a rear bumper painted gloss black, and step boards beneath the doors.
These add to the Ranger XLS’s Sync voice-operated infotainment system, cruise control, driver and front passenger airbags and Isofix child seat anchors.
Powering the Ranger XLS Sport is a 2.2-liter TDCi diesel engine that makes 158hp and 385Nm. Matched to the engine is a six-speed manual transmission, which sends the engine output to either a two-wheel drive or a four-wheel drive system.
Ford Philippines assistant vice-president for marketing Ryan Lorenzo said the Ranger XLS Sport is aimed at “customers with more utilitarian needs” while remaining as “one of the most powerful and performance-bred pickup trucks in the market.”
Nine variants comprise the Ranger lineup in the Philippines. Included here are the Raptor and the different versions of the Wildtrak, XLT and XLS.
The Ranger is one of Ford’s bestselling models in the country. Sales of the truck in the first quarter of the year totaled to 3,142 units, representing a 25% increase from the comparable period in 2018.
The Ranger XLS Sport 4×2 M/T is priced at P1.062 million, the Ranger XLS 4×4 M/T costs P1.211 million. The trucks are offered in five paintjobs: arctic white, absolute black, aluminum metallic, meteor grey and true red.
