TRAINS on both the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) were reported to have stalled Thursday because of technical issues.
An MRT-3 southbound train stopped between the Guadalupe and Sen. Gil Puyat stations in Makati City at 6:08 a.m. It resumed operations at 6:47 a.m.
In an advisory issued to journalists, the MRT-3 management said “technical issues” caused the train to stop.
TV reports later in the day quoted an MRT-3 official as saying the train had to stop because a hairline fracture was spotted on the railway tracks, which had to be repaired first before trains could pass over safely.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” MRT-3 management said in the statement.
Thursday’s incident was a repeat of another train stalling in between the same two Makati City stations on June 19, but this time on the northbound rail. The stall, which happened at around 8 a.m., forced passengers to walk on the tracks.
Meanwhile, Twitter posts coming from LRT-2 passengers said the railway stopped operating on Thursday afternoon because of technical problems.
According to the posts, the line went on Code Red, meaning it stopped its operations, from the V. Mapa station in Manila to the Santolan station in Pasig City.
