THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) said seafarers will get free rides in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) at certain times on Tuesday, June 25.
The move is part of the government’s celebration of the Day of the Seafarer, the agency said.
Seafarers can ride the MRT-3 for free from 5:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. The LRT-2 will exempt seafarers from fares starting 7 a.m. until 9 a.m., then from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
To avail of the free rides, seafarers must present their Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book or MARINA card to the ticketing booths or security guards at the MRT-3 and LRT-2 stations, the DOTr said.
The International Maritime Organization in 2010 designated June 25 as Day of the Seafarer to recognize the significance of sea transport to people’s lives around the world.
