A U-TURN slot each on C-5 Road-South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) and on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City will be relocated this weekend, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Thursday.

The U-turn slot on C-5 Road is scheduled to be moved on June 29, the one on Commonwealth Avenue at noon on June 30.

MMDA general manager Jose Arturo “Jojo” Garcia said the U-turn slot located near the tollgate of SLEx on C-5 will be moved in front of the Heritage Park Mortuary & Crematory gate in Taguig City, about 300 meters away. The official said this is to prepare for the construction of a ramp of the C-5 Cavitex flyover on SLEx.

“The flyover would cut travel time from C-5 Road to … Las Piñas and Parañaque. But there is a need to build a ramp before the flyover could be opened,” Garcia said.

The MMDA said the more than 8,000 vehicles that come from Bonifacio Global City and Kalayaan Avenue daily, and about 2,500 more passing on SLEx, will be affected by the relocation of the U-turn slot.

Meanwhile, the U-turn slot on Commonwealth Avenue, in front of CW Home Depot, shall be moved near the Tandang Sora Avenue and Luzon Avenue flyover. The U-turn slot in front of Don Antonio Heights will be opened to light vehicles on Sunday while the transfer is being done, the MMDA said.

Garcia explained the relocation is meant to allow for the construction of the tunnel guideway for the Metro Rail Transit Line 7. It is also part of the preparation for President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address scheduled on July 22, the official said.

He added that an estimated 10,000 vehicles would be affected by the relocation of the U-turn slot.
