THE corporate social responsibility arm of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), HARI Foundation, Inc. (HFI), announced it recently conducted the first medical mission of the “Alagang Breastfriend” mobile diagnostics clinic together with the UP-PGH and the UP-PGH Cancer Institute.
The mission, held at the UP-PGH grounds, benefitted nearly 40 indigents, HARI said.
It explained the “Alagang Breastfriend” mobile diagnostic clinic will be “deployed to underserved communities to impart relevant information about breast cancer and offer free screening for early signs of breast cancer.”
HARI noted a customized Hyundai H-350 luxury van is used for the missions. The van is equipped with modern mammography and breast ultrasound facilities.
HARI said the initiative is relevant because the Philippines has the highest incidence of breast cancer among Asian countries. The company cited Department of Health figures which find that one out of every 13 Filipino women can develop breast cancer.
“We are doing something for the Filipina, and ultimately for our nation,” said HFI president Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo regarding the program.
In a related development, HARI said a lay forum on breast cancer was held by UP-PGH Cancer Institute chairman Jorge Ignacio.
