MAZDA is celebrating the 30th birthday of its iconic two-seat, droptop sports car, the MX-5, with the release of the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition. Instantly marking out the commemorative car is its exclusive Racing Orange paintjob, as well as some unique touches. The car is limited to only 3,000 examples worldwide.

Thirty are allocated to the Philippines. All are the model’s Retractable Fastback variants, but which come with a choice between a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual Skyactiv-Drive transmission.

Each one of the 3,000 cars has a unique badge with its number identifying it out of all the 30th anniversary MX-5s built.

Matching the paintjob are the orange brake calipers, which incidentally are Brembo units in front and stock factory ones at the rear. Other Racing Orange trimmings are found on the door panels and dashboard. The special Recaro sport seats get orange accents as well.

Special to the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition are 17-inch lightweight forged aluminum Rays wheels, each one of which gets a commemorative engraving. Matched to this — in the case of the variant with a manual gearbox, at least — are Bilstein dampers on all four corners.

Powering the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition is the updated 2.0-liter SkyActiv-G engine that makes 181hp.

In terms of cabin niceties; the car’s nine-speaker Bose Premium audio is fitted with the Mazda Connect system which integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Bermaz Auto Philippines, Inc., local distributor of Mazda, sells the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition for P2.990 million.
