THE newly formed Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corp. (SGAP) has acquired the distribution rights for Geely Auto in the country.
SGAP, established in March, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sojitz Corp. of Japan.
According to SGAP, Sojitz has been involved in auto sales and financing in the Philippines since the 1960s.
It explained Geely Auto is China’s largest private automotive manufacturer whose parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, owns Volvo, London Taxi and Lotus. Geely has also acquired a stake in Malaysia’s Proton. Last year, Geely became the largest shareholder in Daimler, SGAP said.
Geely Auto, established in 1997, is headquartered in Hangzhou, China. It manufactures SUVs, passenger cars, MPVs, electric vehicle and plug-in hybrids, as well as automotive parts.
