THE company contracted to build the bodies used on numerous modern jeepneys which carmakers have recently been rolling out announced it fully supports the nationwide Modern PUV Caravan initiated by government transport agencies.

Centro Manufacturing Corp. said it lauds the Department of Transportation and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for bringing the government’s PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP) to the grassroots.

The company’s president, Raphael Juan, said that together with truck platform suppliers as partners, Centro provides the vehicle solutions to the PUVMP by having all available versions of the Modern PUV, from Class 1 to Class 4.

“These will be showcased during the one-day stops of the Caravan in 32 major cities of the country during the next few months,” Juan said.

Modern PUVs have Euro4-compliant engines, an automated fare collection system, WiFi connection, GPS tracking, dashcams and CCTVs.

The Modern PUV Caravan was launched on July 4 as it traveled from Metro Manila to Pampanga. It is scheduled to last until January 2020, with four phases comprising the caravan, according to Centro.

It noted Phase 1 will cover 10 cities in Luzon north of Metro Manila (July and August); Phase 2 will traverse nine cities in Luzon south of Metro Manila (September and October); Phase 3 will travel around six cities in the Visayas (November); and Phase 4 will tour seven cities in Mindanao (January 2020).
