For the record: Woman races 28-year-old car to Guinness fame
Chinese-Jamaican professional rally car driver Natasha Chang has officially broken into the Guinness Records, for achieving a feat that’s just right up her alley. She drove an old, converted race car up Doi Chang Mountain in Thailand, gaining a vertical elevation of 1,000 meters in a record 6 minutes and 52.69 seconds.
In the process, Natasha beat out competitor KC Montero, a popular radio DJ in the Philippines and one of the featured personalities in History Asia Channel’s “Celebrity Car Wars”.
Their journey to break the record has been documented and aired in National Geographic Channel’s “Record Rides”, an automotive reality entertainment series.
Last July 10, the Guinness Record plaque was formally presented to Natasha at a grand ceremony at the Blue Leaf Filipinas in Paranaque City, in an event where Caltex, the official fuel partner, revealed the breakthrough fuel that made the record-breaking attempt successful.
Caltex with Techron literally fueled Natasha’s 28-year-old car to the esteemed list of the world’s foremost authority on record-keeping.
Brian Fisher, Caltex brand manager, explained how Natasha’s achievement was crucial for the success of Caltex’s partnership with National Geographic. “As a leading visual storyteller, National Geographic’s programming pillars of exploration, education and science resonate well with the Caltex brand. Hence, we are proud to partner with the channel to create ’Record Rides’ for our viewers and motorists in Asia. This show demonstrates how Caltex with Techron fuels can power an engine towards achieving an extraordinary journey.”
He continued: “On a 28-year-old Honda Civic hatch, Natasha achieved the fastest ascent of the Doi Chang Mountain Road Caltex using Caltex with Techron, (and this should) encourage other drivers to use the same fuel that set a world record and experience its power in their everyday drive.”
Greg Engeler, product engineering manager for Caltex, explained how Caltex with Techron could still work well even with old engines. “Our fuel is formulated to clean and protect engines with its Clean & Glide technology. Natasha’s record-setting run demonstrates how a clean engine, even an old one, can function at its optimum. This is the same fuel that our customers can experience at their neighborhood Caltex stations to power their everyday drive.”
During the event, Filipino actor and car enthusiast Dingdong Dantes was also introduced as Caltex’s latest brand ambassador. Dantes also co-owns a car dealership in Paranaque; manages his own film studio, AgostoDos Pictures, and serves as the founding chair of the YesPinoy Foundation.
In 2016, Caltex with Techron was reformulated with the Clean & Glide technology to deliver enhanced engine protection, improved fuel economy and maximized power over time. Last year, it solidified its claim as the fuel with an unbeatable cleaning power with its most recent borescope test, the results of which reveals Caltex with Techron beats other fuels in engine cleanliness.
