OFFICIALS of truck body builder Centro Manufacturing Corp. said it recently visited the factory of Nippon Fruehauf, its partner company based in Atsugi, Japan.

Nippon Fruehauf was established in Detroit in 1914 as Fruehauf America when August Charles Fruehauf invented the semi-trailer for a 1911 Ford Model T car. The company grew when it was bought by Nippon Fruehauf of Japan in 1963. The Atsugi plant was constructed on the same year, according to Centro.

The company noted Nippon Fruehauf invented and introduced several more pioneering products, and that at present it is the biggest manufacturer of wing vans in Japan.

Centro said it currently offers Nippon Fruehauf wing vans in the Philippines, which have been accepted by the domestic logistics industry and are now the top brand for new wing vans in the country. A new venture between Centro and Nippon Fruehauf will soon see the introduction of insulated sandwich panels and temperature-controlled vans, which will be manufactured in a plant now being built in Cavite.

Besides touring Nippon Fruehauf’s facilities, Centro said it was also able to take part in the 31st edition of Nippon Fruehauf’s annual Rose Festival celebration.

Centro explained that in 1984 some roses were planted at the Atsugi factory. Four years later Nippon Fruehauf started celebrating the blooms, eventually becoming known as the Rose Festival. Since then, more roses were planted and other varieties were introduced. Now, the place have more than 2,000 rose varieties.

The festival is open to the public. More than 6,000 people attend the event every year, Centro said.

It said company executives who toured Nippon Fruehauf were its president, Raphael Juan, vice-president Rommel Juan, COO Jerryme Garcia, plant managers Edmund Navarro and Cherry Andaya, and business development head Bong Cruz.

The executives met Ruth A. Fruehauf, granddaughter of Nippon Fruehauf founder August Charles Fruehauf.
