AS A partner to the Olympics and Paralympics Tokyo 2020, Toyota Motor is now developing a special new model to be used for the Games.
The carmaker announced its APM, for Accessible People Mover, is designed as a “last one mile” solution for people going to the Games’ events and venues. The vehicles are intended for athletes, Olympics staff and visitors with accessibility needs — such as the elderly, people with impairments, pregnant women and families with small children, among others.
Toyota said it will bring out around 200 APMs for the Games.
It explained the APM is a low-speed, short-distance battery electric vehicle with three-row seating for six, It can be configured to accommodate wheelchairs. Passenger seats are accessible from both sides of the vehicle.
Toyota said the APM’s seats can also be rearranged so the vehicle can fit a stretcher.
