THE Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) on July 17 and 18 held the seventh edition of the Philippine Electric Vehicle (EV) Summit, an annual gathering which aims to raise public awareness on EVs’ benefits and the progress of their adoption in the country. The theme in the latest EV Summit was modernizing the transportation landscape and how this would drive sustainable growth.

Among the participants in the summit was Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., which also displayed its electrified models. During the event, the carmaker provided additional attraction as it showcased Hyundai’s fully electric Ioniq and Kona models. Also, visitors and participants had the opportunity to test-drive the Ioniq hybrid.

Regarding the summit, HARI president and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said; “We at Hyundai believe that electric vehicles are the future of mobility. EVs have the potential to address the pressing concerns Filipinos are facing in terms of energy and environmental sustainability. That’s why we are one with the government and EVAP in advocating sustainable mobility through EVs or new energy vehicles, and we are proud to participate in this important summit.”

Aside from the EV display, the summit featured presentations on different aspects of the domestic EV industry. Department of Trade and Industry secretary Ramon Lopez delivered the keynote address as Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the senate committee on energy, spoke about the proposed national energy policy and an EV regulatory framework.

Also attending the event were EV experts from Southeast Asia, representatives from the private sector and officials from the Department of Energy and the Department of Environment and National Resources.

“Making the shift to EVs from internal combustion engines in the Philippines requires cooperation between the auto industry, government, transport groups, vehicle owners and commuters. We look to this summit to build stronger relationships between these sectors and thus bring us closer to the future of mobility,” Perez-Agudo said.
