ONE day in November five years ago Tesla Motors’ and Netflix’s drop in share prices was enough to pull the Nasdaq Composite Index down nearly 6%. Now, the tech giants are again together hitting the news as Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company’s cars may soon allow their users to stream Netflix, as well as YouTube videos.
The streaming service will be allowed only when the car is not moving, Musk said on Twitter.
“Ability to stream YouTube & Netflix when car is stopped coming to your Tesla soon! Has an amazingly immersive, cinematic feel due to the comfy seats & surround sound audio,” Musk’s tweet read.
The executive added video streaming may be possible “when full self-driving is approved by regulators.”
“We will enable video while moving,” he said.
Tesla last week also tweeted it has begun rolling out a chess game for its Arcade infotainment app, which the company started pitching in June.
Musk said Tesla is also close to releasing version 10 of its in-car software, which will include games, more infotainment features, a better highway autopilot system and smarter traffic light and stop sign recognition, on top of a “smart summon” function.
