Twin-turbo diesel engine now propels latest Ford Everest

August 09,2019

BECAUSE it is there. A 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine, that is.

The top-spec version of the upgraded Ford Everest midsize SUV, launched today, now packs Ford’s 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that makes 210hp and 500Nm — the same power plant used in the Ford Ranger Raptor. Another 2.0-liter diesel engine with a single turbocharger, producing 177hp and 420Nm, is also available to the latest Everest. Both engines bolt to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Presenting the refreshed Ford Everest are (from left) Ford ASEAN president Khun Vickie, and Ford Philippines managing director PK Umashankar and marketing director Ryan Lorenzo.

Ford Philippines said the engines and transmission offer “improved fuel efficiency and better acceleration,” as well as lower maintenance costs as the vehicle’s service interval schedule is only once a year.

The company added the refreshed versions of the Everest sees “notable enhancements to its engine, transmission and driver-assist technologies.”

Two versions are available; the Everest 2.0L Bi-Turbo Titanium+ 4×4 A/T which sells for P2.299 million and the Everest 2.0L Turbo Titanium 4×2 A/T, priced at P1.995 million. The refreshed Everest is available in Metro Manila Ford dealerships starting August 10,

Extraordinary

“Given its track record in the Philippines, we are confident that the new Ford Everest will give Filipino customers a ride no less than extraordinary, building on its position as one of the smartest and safest SUVs in its class,” said Ford Philippines managing director PK Umashankar.

He noted the Everest debuted in the Philippines (in 2003) “at a time when the demand for SUVs was still on the rise.”

Marking out the refreshed Everest are a new grille, HID headlights, a redesigned bumper and darker 20-inch, split-spoke alloy wheels.

Some of the features fitted to the Everest are smart keyless entry and push-button engine start; a motion-activated liftgate; and active park assist that helps drivers find parallel parking spaces and which automatically steers the vehicle into a parking slot.

The model’s other driver-assist technologies are adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system, forward collision warning, driver alert, auto high beam control, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert and a rear view camera with parking sensors.

Among the Everest’s safety features is the pre-collision assist that uses Ford’s Inter-Urban Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Vehicle Detection. The system detects pedestrians and vehicles, and alerts the driver with an audible and visual warning to bring the Everest to a complete stop, helping mitigate rear-end collisions and road-traffic collisions with pedestrians.

In the cabin, the Everest is kitted with Ford’s Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and an eight-inch, full-color touchscreen and reversing camera. Along with built-in navigation, Sync 3 is also works with Waze and Google Maps. Active noise cancellation cocoons the interior from engine and road noise. A panoramic moonroof can let natural light into the cabin.

As a genuine SUV, the Everest is equipped with a 4WD Terrain Management System, guaranteeing the best traction and stability on sand, mud, grass or rocks.

Six color options are available to the latest Everest: Diffused Silver, Absolute Black, Aluminum Metallic, Arctic White, Meteor Gray and Sunset Red.
