Subaru PH slates hunt for Pinoy Palm Challenge contenders in Singapore
It’s that time of the year when Subaru starts its search for its next Palm Challenge champion who could last the longest while one palm is placed in one designated area of the vehicle.
Last year, it was Analiza Mokhtar, a 40-year-old bank employee from Singapore and seasoned veteran of this grueling contest, who took the crown as she lasted 75 hours, 17 minutes and 58 seconds.
For her steadfastness, she won the grand prize of a new Subaru XV 2.0i-S Eyesight as well as became the first female to win the challenge since 2007.
The Philippine contingent did admirably as one of its members, Filmark Bernante, reached the finals as he lasted 57 hours and 51 minutes.
Intense
He described last year’s contest as intense as ever due to Singapore’s signature sweltering, humid heat not to mention the occasional intense rainfall that comes unannounced.
There’s also the mental part of the competition, he relates, when participants start to hallucinate and experience unexplained bodily pains after a couple of days of being immobile and unable to sleep (each contestant is only allowed a few minutes of respite to stretch, go to the bathroom and take water and snack).
Just like the previous years, each participating country will send delegates to Singapore for the November finals.
Here in the Philippines, Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Subaru brand of vehicles in the country, just opened the registration for the 2019 Subaru Palm Challenge: Philippine Face-Off.

The event will be held during the Subaru Festival from Sept. 21 to 22 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. To sign up and for other information, log on to https://www.subaru.asia/ph/palmchallenge2019.
