IT HAS been proposed at least twice in the last two years, with the plan not gaining any traction. Still, a group believes implementing a paired one-way traffic scheme on EDSA and C-5 will ease congestion on the two main thoroughfares of Metro Manila.
According to assorted news reports, Guevara & Partners, Inc. on Wednesday presented the traffic plan to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. Spokesperson Celine Pialago said the agency is studying the proposal.
The plan calls for turning EDSA and C-5 into a paired one-way system, with the former accommodating southbound traffic while the latter northbound.
Along with this, a bus rapid transit will be installed on EDSA, with bus lanes located either near the sidewalk, or on the center of EDSA.
This will mean lanes for cars will be reduced as public transport will get more road space.
The engineers’ group also said EDSA and C-5 should have 96 bus stops each, spaced 200 meters apart. Around 24,000 buses are needed to service the thoroughfares, according to the group.
