Another day, another special-edition motoring timepiece. Christmas must be just around the corner. Today, it’s Spyker’s turn to reveal its bid for your hard-earned cash. If you recall, Spyker is the supercar maker which suprised the automotive industry by buying Saab Motors from GM.
The timepieces are designed and engineered by Thierry Chaunu of Expression D’Artistes International S.A. Swiss-made, the chronographs are available in solid 18K gray or rose gold finishes, each of which is limited to a run of 250, or in polished steel or matt black titanium finishes, each of which is limited to a run of 1000 each. Like the car’s seats, the leather straps are quilted and available in black, white, and of course, Dutch Spyker Orange. Indeed, the materials for the straps are the very same ones used for the seats.
As expected, the watch carries the brand’s famous slogan “Nulla tenaci invia est via” (“For the tenacious, no road is impassable.”) on the bezel. The crown carries the propeller badget, while the pushbuttons are meant to mimic exhaust pipes. The watches are powered by a Valjoux caliber 7750 automatic mechanical movement. Prices range from US$9750 (about P420,000) to an eye-watering US$30,500 (about P1.3 million).
The watches were launched at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and are available at www.SpykerTime.com and “carefully selected” watch retailers.
