Cebu shifts into high gear this weekend as it welcomes the Cebu Auto Show, ongoing until Sept. 15, 10am to 7pm at the SM Seaside Skyhall. This year’s Cebu Auto Show (CAS), its 12th edition, features two model debuts.

MG will showcase its new subcompact sedan, the MG 5. MG says that the new sedan features best-in-class vehicle dimensions, and features normally found only in the premium segment. The MG 5 measures 4,601mm long and 1,788 wide, making it closer to what we might consider as a midsize sedan. Its 2,680mm, reportedly longest in its class, provides ample legroom front and rear.

The MG 5 is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 114ps and 150Nm (also best in class). Transmissions options are 5-speed manual or CVT with manual mode.

The MG has 10-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The monitor also has 360-degree birds-eye view feature for easier parking. Auto headlamps and power driver’s seat are also on board. Four-wheel disc brakes, hill start assist, auto brake hold, push start, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, reversing camera, and moonroof are also available.

The MG 5 will of course be covered by the company’s 5-year, 100,000km warranty, with one-year free PMS and access to 24/7 emergency service. Prices start at P658,888 for the 1.5-liter STD MT, and go up to P938,888 for the 1.5-liter DEL CVT.

“This is our first time to be part of the Cebu Auto Show and we are excited to offer an exclusive inaugural look at our newest model—the MG 5 subcompact sedan—to all our valuable patrons in Cebu,” says Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, president and CEO of The Covenant Car Company Inc.-MG Philippines. “We acknowledge the robust growth of the automotive sales in Cebu and its surrounding cities as an indicator that, indeed, this is an integral market for MG Philippines. It is with this in mind that we will continue to provide top-notch products and services to all our esteemed clients here in the Visayas.”

The MG 5 will be launched in Manila with another edition of the MG Live! free concert series. This will take place from Oct. 3 to 6, 2019, at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet launched a new variant of its pickup, called the Colorado Trail Boss. The Trail Boss will pack the familiar 2.8-liter turbodiesel with variable geometry turbo, good for 200hp and 500Nm, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Colorado Trail Boss features exterior enhancements such as tactical sport bar, black Chevrolet badging on a black grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, and Colorado black decal and Trail Boss badge.

On the other hand, Nissan will be showcasing its Intelligent Mobility suite of safety and convenience features, as seen on its new Terra SUV and other models. Customers can experience the Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) features with an interactive demo within the comfort of Nissan’s booth at CAS. They can experience parking and driving the vehicles with NIM as if they were on the road.

Pocket events during CAS 2019 include the Custom and Classic Car Competition, with prizes up for grabs in 21 categories. The RC Drift will feature members of the Philippine RC Drifters demonstrate their skills in events such as the 1/10 scale RC Bodyshell contest. There will also be a Diecast Car Model Swap Meet, in partnership with the Cebu Diecast Car Collectors.

For two-wheel enthusiasts, CAS 2019 will also showcase the latest motorbikes from Honda and other brands. Exclusive promos and live demonstrations will be held during the show.
