SHARPER styling, a spacious interior and smart technologies are the things promised by the new-generation Chevrolet Captiva, which GM Southeast Asia announced will go on sale in Chevrolet dealerships across Thailand on October 4.
GM builds the Captiva at its facilities in Thailand.
The company called the new Captiva, priced from less than THB1 million (about P1.7 million), as “one of the best value full-size SUVs on the market.” GM said the Captiva offers compact SUV buyers “the opportunity to step into a full-size SUV.” Customers who need the space and versatility of a full-size SUV, meanwhile, now have “one of the best-looking and best-value offerings in the market” with the Captiva, GM said.
“[The] Captiva is new from the ground up, offering fresh and modern styling and is among the class-leaders for interior space, roominess and flexibility. These key elements are leading considerations for SUV customers,” said Hector Villarreal, president of GM Southeast Asia.
Three variants of the Captiva are offered in Thailand, which could come with either five seats or seven seats.
The top variant gets a panoramic sunroof, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button ignition, configurable digital display and information cluster.
Standard on all variants is a 10.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that allows access to the radio, air-conditioning controls, vehicle settings, tire pressure monitoring and Bluetooth/USB/AUX-connected devices. The Chevrolet Link system can mirror smartphones using the Android operating system, enabling hands-free phone calls and a variety of applications. Apple CarPlay will be available in early 2020.
The tablet-like touchscreen displays the Captiva’s 360-degree view camera, providing a real-time view of all sides of the vehicle and a bird’s-eye view of the space around the vehicle using multiple camera angles to help the driver safely maneuver at speeds up to 20kph.
The top variant has a synthetic leather-trimmed, six-way adjustable driver’s seat. The other variants get fabric seats trimmed with blue denim-style inserts. The second-row seats split 60/40, the optional third row splits 50/50. The second row slides forward and backward. Vents, cup holders and USB charge ports are fitted throughout the vehicle.
Powering the new Captiva is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine matched to an eight-speed CVT.
