A TURBOCHARGED 1.5-liter VTEC engine, Honda’s suite of smart technologies, a TFT display for the instruments and 18-inch noise-reducing wheels are some of the key advanced features fitted to the 10th-generation Honda Accord, which has just been introduced locally by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI).
The new model goes on sale at Honda Cars dealerships Wednesday. Only one variant, coming in a choice of three colors (Platinum White Pearl, Crystal Black, Modern Steel Metallic), is available. It costs P2.288 million.
HCPI president Noriyuki Takakura during the car’s launch program held Tuesday in Makati City noted the introduction of the new Accord comes at a time when the domestic auto industry is recovering, even if 2019 continues to be a “very challenging year” due to “various economic factors.” Still, HCPI has now introduced three models, he said.
Preceding the launch of the Accord were the Honda Brio and updated Honda Civic releases.
The latest Accord is powered by 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged gasoline engine producing 187hp at 5,500rpm and 243Nm from 1,500-5,500rpm. This output, according to HCPI, is higher than that made by the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine used in the previous Accord. Matched with the turbocharged engine is a CVT.
Defining the styling of the new Accord are Honda’s familial fascia with a large grille, a wider stance, a lower roof, a longer and lower hood, “wing-shaped” full-LED headlights and fog lamps, swoopy body lines, pronounced wheel arches and concave door panels. Marking out the car’s rear are C-shaped LED taillights.
The car’s techie features include a seven-inch TFT display instrument cluster; an eight-inch touchscreen for the audio, display settings and various safety functions; a navigation system; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity; smart entry with push-button start and remote engine start; “walk away” auto lock; electric parking brake with auto brake hold; and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror.
Also fitted to the new Accord is Honda’s suite of driver-assist and safety systems called Sensing. Included here are collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control with a low-speed follow function, lane-keeping assist, road-departure mitigation and automatic high beam.
