AFTER more than eight hours of competition only nine seconds separated the top finisher from the second placer in the Philippine Face-Off of the Subaru Palm Challenge.
Local Subaru distributor Motor Image Pilipinas (MIP) on September 21 held this year’s qualifier for the contest which calls for participants to keep his or her palm on a Subaru the longest. More than 100 contestants signed up for the challenge, according to MIP, all of whom endured fatigue and the inclement weather.
Leading the top 10 finishers was Reggie Purugganan, whom MIP said is a veteran in the competition. Purugganan was able to keep his hand on one of the four Subaru Foresters in 8:14:50, nine seconds longer than Nikko Blancada.
The eight other top finishers who followed Puruggana and Blancada were Don Marc Pantaleon, Lordgie Vallente, Isaah Kevin Locsin, Filmark Bernante, Mark Alber Guballa, Joaquin Ireneo Fabros, Carlo Talahib and Cyrus Corpuz, a newcomer who clocked in at 8:07:30.
MIP said only three participants from the 2018 Philippine team made it to the top 10 list this year, namely Filmark Bernante (last year’s Philippine round winner), Guballa and Talahib, who has competed for eight years now.
The top 10 participants form MIP’s official team in the Subaru Palm Challenge final to be held in Singapore in November.
