Bentley Bentayga Hybrid arrives in European showrooms

September 27,2019

BENTLEY announced its Bentayga Hybrid — a pioneer in the luxury hybrid SUV segment — is now on sale in Europe. The model is already available in North America.

The latest version will be the company’s most efficient model ever, with CO2 emissions of just 79 grams per kilometer.

Bentley said the Bentayga Hybrid is its “first step” toward electric vehicles, which will see the brand roll out an electrified version of all its nameplate by 2023.

The Bentayga Hybrid combines a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline engine with the E Motor, which acts as both an electric motor and a power generator. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous system offers 94kW peak power and 400Nm of torque, allowing for swift and silent acceleration from stationary. The system provides instant torque response by eliminating the engine’s turbo lag, while the high-voltage battery is capable of recharging in just 2.5 hours.

Together with the V6 engine, the result is 700Nm of combined torque, a top speed of 254km/h and sprint time of 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Bentley said the latest Bentayga variant has three hybrid drive modes. In EV drive mode, the vehicle is driven only with energy supplied from the battery to the wheels via the electric motor. In Hybrid mode the car uses information from the navigation system to optimize power usage from the battery and the gasoline engine. In Hold mode the use of engine and electric power is balanced to maintain electric range for later use. In all modes, energy is recovered to the battery through regeneration during deceleration.

The Bentayga Hybrid has a total driving range of 747 kilometers.
