OPERATIONS of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) were suspended shortly before noon Thursday after a power rectifier on the railway located between the Anonas and Katipunan stations tripped and caught fire.
The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), which operates LRT-2, in a statement issued Thursday afternoon via Twitter said it will not resume operations on the entire railway line, or from Santolan to Recto and vice versa, for the rest of the day.
LRTA administrator Reynaldo Berroya said the agency’s “primary concern… is to determine the extent of the damage so as to ascertain the integrity, stability and safety of LRTA structures and facilities.”
The official added he has ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the electrical problem.
The LRTA said “all efforts will be exhausted for a possible implementation of degraded operations from Anonas or Cubao to Recto and vice versa tomorrow [meaning Friday, October 4).”
