PRESIDENTIAL spokesman Salvador Panelo makes good on his promise as he took jeepney rides to work early Friday morning.
A report posted in the Philippine Daily Inquirer Friday said the government official took selfies of his commute, then shared these with the media. In the photos, Panelo is seen wearing a white shirt and cap.
A netizen spotted Panelo waiting for a jeepney at Concepcion in Marikina City around 7 a.m.
The netizen, who also took a selfie with the Palace official, said she overheard Panelo’s conversation with a policeman if he wanted a taxi.
“Hindi, jeep lang hanggang Sta. Mesa (No, just a jeepney to Sta. Mesa, Manila),” Panelo replied.
Panelo shared with the media another photo of him past 7 a.m., saying he is on his third jeepney ride and will hold a press briefing in Malacañang at 11 a.m.
Another netizen who chanced upon Panelo said he doesn’t have any security detail in his commute to Malacañang.
Panelo’s jeepney rides were a response over a challenge made by a youth group, which dared the spokesman to commute to work using the mass transport system without bodyguards, with no special treatment, and during the early morning rush hours.
Asked earlier why he accepted the dare after initially shrugging it off as a “silly challenge,” Panelo replied: “It’s a silly acceptance” because he wanted to give in to his critics’ wishes.
