Porsche Design Opens new boutique at Solaire with four classics on display

The Gallery at Solaire hosts precious artwork, and from Oct. 2 to 12, it will host four rolling works of art, all bearing the Porsche logo. The four classic Porsches are part of the celebration of Porsche Design Manila’s latest boutique opening at The Shoppes at Solaire.

The Porsche Design boutique at Solaire formally opened on Oct. 2, with Porsche Design Asia Pacific Sales Director, Ms Nina Razali and Hans Yao, Managing Director of Porsche Design Manila, on hand to welcome the guests.

Porsche Design Manila revealed its 2019 Fall/Winter collection comprising casual and sportswear, including collaborations with new partner brand Puma. Also on display at the boutique are lifestyle items such as bags, pens, luggage, and watches.

Porsche Design summarizes its design philosophy as: optimize function, reduce the form down to the essentials, and overcome the familiar to discover new and exceptional solutions. The company was founded by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, nicknamed “Butzi.” He was the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, who founded the eponymous car company. Butzi Porsche famously designed the original 911, circa 1968.

Its first product was reportedly a chronograph wristwatch. It’s a heritage that continues to this day, with several distinctive and innovative timepieces.

Of particular interest to car enthusiasts is the adjacent display of classic and customized air-cooled Porsche 911s, on loan from discerning car collectors. First is a gray 1968 Targa, with the distinctive removable and foldable roof with metal roll bar behind the seats. The Targa design was reportedly a hedge of sorts, in case the US Department of Transportation banned convertibles.

1974 Porsche 911 Safari

The eye-catching 1974 Porsche 911 Safari is done up in period-correct racing livery. The modified suspension and fortified bodywork make it suitable for rally racing. The 1983 Porsche 911 SC is a lightweight version with more powerful engine. It comes with a 3-liter naturally-aspirated engine capable of 249hp. This model comes exclusively in white.

The 1992 Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB) Porsche 911, nicknamed Noah, started out as a 964 Porsche 911. It was modified to look like an early 911, with the distinctive RWB wheel flares. This is owned by racecar driver, car collector and Car Porn Racing owner Angie King.
