Hyundai’s modern jeepneys clinch DOTr certification

HYUNDAI Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) said Hyundai’s modern Class 1 and Class 2 jeepneys have received Certificates of Compliance from the Department of Transportation, meaning the vehicles can now officially serve the commuting public.

According to HARI, the certification was secured days after it reiterated its support for the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program, which calls for the deployment of modern jeepneys that meet current emissions and safety standards. HARI pledged its support anew during the recent Roads & Traffic Expo.

Displayed during the event was the Hyundai H-100 Class 1 Modern Jeepney, which HARI said has also been showcased at several motor shows and PUV caravans nationwide over the past year.

The vehicle can seat 12 passengers (plus the driver). It is powered by a Euro4-compliant 2.5-liter CRDi diesel engine that makes 128hp and 235Nm, and which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The H-100 Class 1 Modern Jeepney is equipped with a CCTV camera, digital signboard, optional WiFi router and two automated fare collection systems.

HARI said its Class 2 Modern Jeepney uses Hyundai’s HD50S platform and is powered by a Euro4-compliant, 2.9-liter CRDi diesel engine that is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is equipped with a roof-mounted air-conditioner, an automated fare collection system, WiFi, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, a seven-inch monitor and a speed limiter.

HARI said both its Class 1 and Class 2 Modern Jeepneys come with Hyundai’s after-sales support as offered by the brand’s 14 commercial vehicle dealerships across the country.
