It’s 2021 and you’re walking literally above Edsa to your next jeepney, bus or train ride.
This is not a scenario from a sci-fi novel but a plan starting to take shape thanks to the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
ADB said on Thursday, Oct. 17, that elevated walkways would rise in four pedestrian-heavy areas along Edsa.
Shuji Kimura, ADB transport specialist, said at a press briefing that the $100 million loan for the walkways, called the Edsa Greenways Project, would likely be approved by the ADB board by the first quarter of 2020 to pave the way for start of construction by the end of next year.
Kimura said it would take a year to build the elevated walkways that would be partially operated by 2021 and completed in 2022.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will build the pedestrian bridges near existing Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations in Taft Avenue, Pasay City; Guadalupe, Makati City; Cubao, Quezon City; and Balintawak, Quezon City, Kimura said./TSB -By: Ben O. de Vera
