You have to hand it to the French when it comes to car design. They just design things a bit differently, and more stylishly at that. The Peugeot 3008 SUV Active is the current generation 3008 that came from MPV roots and Peugeot did a great job restyling this model into a stylish compact SUV. It’s longer and bigger than its predecessor, and has a proper compact family SUV feel with adequate ride height and ground clearance.
On the exterior, its sleek floating roof design and nicely placed chrome trims made all the difference in restyling this French compact SUV. Inside, the front passengers are welcomed with a nicely laid out futuristic cockpit and dash. The instrumentation is all digital, quite millennial-friendly and smartphone connected, and its i-Cockpit instrumentation is quite intuitive and easy to figure out. The layout of the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment monitor also sits high on the dash and matches well with the configurable 12.3-inch heads-up display, so your eyes can take a quick glance without really need of too much head movement which makes it safer for driving. The metal piano key shortcut buttons and claudia soft touch leather trimming and contrasting stitching, and high quality plastic pocket storages on the door sidings gave it a very premium feel, and it is one of the nicest interiors in its class.
One slight drawback though is the fact that even if the shortcut keys can quickly pull up the controls of the car’s a/c, music and other menus, everything has to be done through the touchscreen monitor, which entails more steps including having to control the a/c blower and temperature using the screen.
The longer wheelbase and more athletic stature of the new 3008 SUV Active is further complemented by its gorgeous slim headlights and lovely upright grille design. The uninterrupted silhouette stylishly connects both the front and rear, and neatly ends up with a well- designed 3-D effect tail lights.
Powering the 3008 SUV Active is a 1.6 liter THP (turbo high pressure) gasoline engine rated at 165hp and 240Nm of torque mated with a 6-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT6) that allows spirited driving. Peugeot made it more fun to drive by using a small sporty leather wrapped steering wheel reminiscent of the Peugeot 208, plus a Sport Mode with shift paddles for manual mode that can momentarily make you forget you’re driving an SUV.
Comfortably priced at P1.890 million, it also comes with a number of driving aids for added safety like the Advance Grip Control system for optimized traction control and Hill Assist Descent Control. Its 2/3-1/3 rear folding bench seats and “Magic Flat” system also allows more cargo room if needed. The relatively flat floor design also gives more legroom for taller occupants.
