Two variants, five color choices for the new 2020 Mazda2
THERE’S a brand new model at the brand new warehouse and training facility of Mazda Philippines.
Mazda PH recently announced that units of the New 2020 Mazda2 are now at its the Mazda Center of Excellence in Cabuyao City, Laguna and ready for release.
With its redesigned Evolved Kodo-inspired grille and signature wing layout, new interior finish, smoother ride quality, and improved handling and quietness, the 2020 Mazda2 Elite in sedan and hatchback forms now align with the brand’s latest premium offerings in terms of design, driving refinement and comfort.
“The Mazda2 has always been a popular model in the Philippine market,” shares Steven Tan, president and CEO of Mazda Philippines. Over the past few months, we have had a constant demand for the model. Now that we are introducing the new Mazda2 for 2020, we can once again address the needs of our young, adventurous customers who see the value of a stylish, practical and fun-to-drive everyday car from Mazda.”
The New 2020 Mazda2 features a host of improvements designed to provide a more mature rendition of its already bold and dynamic design. Similar to the recently launched 2020 Mazda models—the Mazda CX-5, the all-new Mazda3, and the Mazda CX-30, the new Mazda2 shows off a new front grill mesh design that exudes quality and changes its looks, as it interplays with the light and shadow of its surroundings. Together with the new chrome signature grille first seen in the design of the RX-Vision concept car, the new design of the Mazda2 evokes an air of elegance, class, and refinement.
To further reinforce its newfound stability and grace, the lower position of the 2020 Mazda2’s front and rear bumpers are highlighted by new horizontal bezels that draw attention to the lower center of gravity and calm stance of the car. These accents stand out to project exceptional quality and width. A new intricate 16-inch wheel design further enhances the Mazda2’s elegant bearing, while maintaining a size and weight package that maintains the car’s lively and efficient driving performance. Auto-levelling LED headlights are now standard for both trims making the driving experience easier and more intuitive even at night. This complements the new taillight configuration which further enhances safety while at the same time improving the aesthetics of the overall design.
Inviting cabin experience
Inside, the 2020 Mazda2 features a new brown and black fabric motif for the front and rear seats. Designed to create a warm and inviting cabin experience, the new materials and colors represent a more mature and elegant vibe for the already fun and stylish interiors. Also new for the 2020 Mazda2 is the inclusion of smartphone mirroring connectivity. Now, passengers can control their mobile phones’ popular navigation and music applications through the Mazda Connect infotainments system. By integrating mobile phone functionality through either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto interfaces, a safer and more convenient connected drive is realized.
More than just cosmetic enrichments, the 2020 Mazda2 also features engineering improvements designed to contribute to a more pleasant and intuitive drive. To further improve the vehicle’s Noise Vibration and Harshness performance, the Mazda2 now features improved seals and reduced gaps in its construction. This lowers wind noise intrusion into the cabin making for a quieter and relaxing driving experience.
The drive itself has likewise been enhanced. New urethane top mounts in the rear shock absorbers, retuned rear damper valves and improved steering response all make for a smoother yet agile drive. Combined with enhancements in seat structure and posture support as derived from Mazda Human-centricity studies, the 2020 Mazda2 is now poised to provide an even more relaxing driving experience.
The 2020 Mazda2 continues with its highly fuel-efficient 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine. However, a host of internal mechanical improvements allow for better thermal management and improve anti-knock properties of the proven engine. The result is an improvement in power figures—109hp and 141Nm of torque are now available for a more engaging drive. Together with Mazda’s very own G-Vectoring Control Plus—a new system that smoothens corner entry by reducing engine torque, and stabilizes corner exit by applying braking force to the outside wheels, every drive becomes easy, intuitive and stress-free.
Two variants
There will be two variants for the new 2020 Mazda2 Elite—the sedan and hatchback. Both are priced at P995,000 for the standard colors—Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, Titanium Flash and Eternal Blue. An additional P22,400 will be added to the vehicle’s SRP for the Soul Red Crystal selections.
