Hyundai PH launches all-new Venue SUV starting below P1M

Hyundai Philippines is bolstering its lineup where it counts right now—in the SUV segment, with the launch of the all-new Venue subcompact SUV. The Venue slots just below the award-winning Kona in size and price.

What is it:

Venue now takes its place as Hyundai’s entry-level SUV. Venue measures a bit longer than 4 meters, at 4040mm, 125mm shorter than the Kona. The length was chosen partly to qualify for a tax break for the Indian market, and Hyundai made the most of the subcompact footprint. With a 1770mm width and 1610mm height, the Venue looks well-proportioned in its stubby way.

Design

Hyundai shrank the Kona’s styling to fit the more angular and upright Venue. Like the Kona, Venue features slit-like lights. The actual headlamps and daytime running lights are mounted lower into the bumper. The grille is similar to the one in Hyundai’s stunning new Tucson. Dubbed the cascading grille, it features a three-dimensional pattern made of black and chrome steel. Black cladding surrounds the wheel wells with their 17-inch alloys with asymmetrical spoke design. A front-wheel air curtain inlet is integrated into the bumper and aids aerodynamic efficiency. Venue uses halogen headlights and LED daytime running lights. The rear features a clean, simple hatch, with small, multi-element taillights. The tailights feature lenticular optical elements. Venue will be available in bright and attractive colors, with two-tone paint scheme. The roof and side mirrors are available in contrasting shades.

Power

Hyundai Venue is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. Power is a decent 123ps and 151Nm of torque. It’s paired to a 6-speed automatic. 0-100kph is a leisurely 11.4 seconds, but the power delivery is reportedly decent for city use.

Chassis

The new Venue rides on McPherson–strut front, torsion-beam rear chassis. The compact exterior pays off in maneuverability, with a 10.2-meter turning circle. Hyundai reportedly used advanced steel and high-strength material, with its Advanced High-Strength Steel used for 46 percent of the chassis to improve rigidity and safety.

Venue is equipped with 6 airbags, including side and curtain airbags. Electronic stability control and ABS brakes round out the active safety features.

Interior

The 2520mm wheelbase pays off with an adequately-sized interior. Here’s hoping that Hyundai will bring in the Denim trim, which features blue plastic, leather-like trim and seat material. The dashboard is laid out in a T pattern for a more spacious feel. An 8-inch touchscreen is available, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also acts as the display screen for the rearview camera. Trunk space is 355 liters with all seats up, and the rear seats can split-fold for additional room.

Price

The Venue will be available in two variants: 1.6-liter GLS 6-speed automatic and 1.6-liter GL 6-speed automatic. Colors are: Denim Blue, Fiery Red, Cosmic Grey, Polar White, and Phantom Black. Price is PhP 915,000 for the 1.6 GL 6AT and PhP 985,000 for the 1.6 GLS 6AT.
