Showing off hybrids with an attitude seems to be theme this month for Japanese carmakers, as Honda centers its SEMA effort on its CR-Z “sport hybrid.” Honda released 12 variants of the CR-Z, each modified by a different tuning outfit.
Honda’s house efforts are the Mugen-accessorized version, the Honda Performance Development Hybrid R, and an HPD CR-Z Racer. The Mugen accessory kit will be limited to only 300 complete kits (although I’m sure a certain Mr. Llave can cook up something for those left out), including front grille, rear wing spoiler, 17-inch wheels, and interior touches including a black aluminum shift knob.
The Hybrid R and Racer concepts are meant to demonstrate the potential of the CR-Z for “both street and racing performance,” A pair of CR-Z racers will compete at the 25 hours of Thunderhill endurance race. The engine is turbocharged and equipped with an upgraded Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system, resulting in a 200 bhp total output.
Eibach Springs and Konig wheels also pitched in with their CR-Z creations.
Honda also showed off an Accord coupe and an Accord Crosstour, modified with larger wheels, lowered ride height and sport suspension, and special paint jobs.
