This nightmare scenario arrived a little late for Halloween: Shell gasoline stations in some parts of Metro Manila have run out of premium fuel (both the 95 octane and the V-Power gasoline), and others may follow suit. This is due to the shutdown of an oil pipeline being run by the First Philippine Industrial Corp, which is owned by the Lopez Group. The 117-km pipeline transports fuel products from Batangas to Pandacan, Manila. The pipeline, which transports 60% of the fuel requirement of Metro Manila, is suspected of leaking and causing oil to pool up in a basement of a condominium in Makati. The Makati city government thus ordered the pipeline shut down while inspection and repairs are being made.
To help alleviate the fuel shortage, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has extended the exemption of fuel tankers of Pilipinas Shell and Chevron Philippines form the Metro Manila truck ban, which is imposed on certain hours of the day.
If you are about to run out of fuel for your BMW M5 or Porsche Turbo (or even Subaru Impreza), you can run temporarily on 93-octane fuel, at the cost of decreased performance. That would be better than dressing up in full leather gear, grabbing a shotgun and wandering with your mangy mutt friend in search of fuel.
