Following the introduction of the sacrilegious two-wheel drive, two-door Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover is showing off a more practical five-door version. The five-door is expected to enable more comfortable journeys for families while still retaining the coupe-like design theme of the Evoque, based on the LRX concept car. The car’s footprint is unchanged from the three-door version, while height has been increased to provide more cabin space. Whatever its origins and intentions, it is one handsome beast.
Following the trend for more economical powertrains, the Evoque carries a range of turbo gasoline and diesel engines. There’s a 2.2-liter turbodiesel, good for up to 190 bhp, or a 2.0 liter 238-bhp gasoline version. The four-cylinder engines, combined with a lightweight body shell, will help Land Rover cope with increasingly stringent carbon-emissions regulations in the USA and Europe.
Inside, the Evoque has the expected leather and wood, a glass panoramic roof, and split-folding rear seats. The touchscreen features dual-view technology, which allows driver and passenger to view different content.
Since this is a Range Rover, the car still has some off-road capability, at least the four-wheel drive versions. It reportedly has higher departure angles than other compact SUVs. Land Rover’s Terrain Response electronic traction control system will help it crawl through the gravel driveway of your local shopping mall.
The Evoque five-door will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.
